Journalism Ontological Investigation (JOI) Research Team

Journalism is in the midst of transformative change. Our research team focuses on how journalism makes sense of itself in relation to the internal and external pressures that shape journalist's adaptation.
This University of South Florida-based research team is dedicated to unpacking how journalists navigate the choppy waters of change. Developed with the aim of promoting graduate and undergraduate student research through facilitating team-based scholarship, this team has focused on research aimed at conference presentation, journal publication. Through this, 6 students have presented 9 presentations at conferences including the International Communication Association (Denver, USA), Future of Journalism (Cardiff, Wales), the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (San Francisco, USA), and the European Communication Research and Education Association (Sheffield, UK). This has also led to four team publications.
All four published in 2025 and we are at work on new projects (stay tuned!). Follow us here on our ResearchGate page
